Alchemy Plastics is an early stage recycling startup, focused on changing the way we recycle plastic. As a company it is driven to close the recycling loop and invest in equipment/ technology to efficiently refine scrap/ post-consumer plastic into virgin plastic. Microwave pyrolysis is a method of breaking down plastic through the use of high-energy microwave heating reactors in the absence of oxygen. In conjunction with a catalyst, this heating process allows plastic to be returned to a liquid hydrocarbon state that can be refined into several products.

Currently our equipment can refine and produce ASTM road diesel, traditional gasoline and liquid nathpa. In the future, Alchemy Plastics intends to also produce styrene monomer, and virgen PET/ Styrene pellets. 

There are three primary by-products to the pyrolysis process:

1. Synthetic Natural Gas- used to power an electric generator, and reduce the carbon foot-print/ utilities demand for the pyrolysis machine.
2. Paraffin wax- which can be reused in the pyrolysis process.
3. Organic Char- which has many uses.

Currently, Alchemy is working with several industry partners to establish a pilot facility in the second quarter of 2022.

The pilot facility is planned to operate in Alameda, CA.

We can build the sites faster and closer to existing recycling centers- reducing transportation needs for scrap plastic.
